It's not alway about getting something new. Most of the time a little paint, new inserts and little elbow grease can give new life to anything with good bones.

I try and re-use what is already available when ever possible. Not only does it reduce the amount of trash being discarded in our already over filled landfills but to save my clients money on things they don't need. If you already have it (i.e. wood floors, light fixtures, architectural details, furniture etc.) and just don't like the way it looks, you'd be better off altering it than trying to replace it.

Speaking of altering... It's difficult now-a-days to find quality furnishings , fixtures and decor no matter how much you have to spend. So if my clients have something that's in fairly good condition, I'll find a way to give it new life so as to keep it rather than buying something new. (FUN FACT- Refurbishing, in most situations, is actually less expensive than purchasing new)

So perhaps that favorite piece isn't in the best shape. It can't do what it used to but it's just too hard to part with. I like to find a way to incorporate it back into the space. Whether it's repurposed into something functional or decorative (I try my best to make sure it does both) my client's can continue to enjoy it as an accent in their space.
